I have been wondering if my PH Range is within a normally acceptable range during a 24 hour period. As you can see in the graph below, my range is currently from a low of 8.0 to a high of 8.4. Is this within reason? Should I be concerned with the 0.4 swing?

What also catches my attention is that it shoots up almost 0.15 within the first 20 minutes of MH's coming on. Is this normal?

My water and inhabitants seem to be doing fine with this and so I'm not really concerned, just curious. I do have a refuge running on opposite lighting cycle.

Please let me know what you think?

p.s. I routinely maintain and calibrate my probe.

    Thanks!!

at night the pH should change. i would be worried if it was a 1.4 swing.

Just before lights go out the Ph will be at its highest point and just before lights come on in the morn the Ph will be at its lowest point what is the DKH at that controls the Ph as the Ph controls noting and really mean not much more then nothing its a simple indicator of the amounts of free carbonate in the system to off set acids . So if the DKH is at proper levels then the Ph has to be .. And if you are testing with a test kits its a waste of time and money a meter is a must if you are the type to worry about Ph. c

what type of light do you have on your fuge? it should be running opposite time cycle than your main lights. this should help with the ph drop.

    Thank you for the replys.

Tangster, my kh is at 9 and I do test the PH with a meter but the KH with test kits. I don't really dwell on the PH results since the tank seems to be doing fine but was curious about the amount of movement from night to morning. I know it's natural for it to fall at night and rise with the lights but the swing seemed drastic to me.

Night-rida, I am using two 100 watt 6500 GE bulbs for the fuge running all night and off during the day. Basically opposite my MHs. Do you recommend a better bulb?

    Thanks again for your response.
