So this tank was originally my QT. I had it set up, incorrectly, with LR and LS and there it sat for months. Last August, I went to an LFS that was going out of business and my children noticed a pair of nemos. So I asked how much. I got a mated pair of Ocellaris clowns for $35. So I took them home and we put them in the tank and they have been sitting there for last six months.

Last week I was browsing PetMountain.com when I came upon a deal for lighting. They were selling an 18" 2x18W Nova Extreme T5HO with 10,000K and 420nm bulbs for $48 and change. I bought it. It came in yesterday. So I took off the old fixture and plopped down the new one. Simple as that. It looked GREAT!!!! I know the bulbs that came with it are junk and UVLs are eventually going to go in there....but it doesn't matter right now. So I robbed the 90g of the frogspawn, a mushroom rock and the bubble coral.

The corals look really good under these lights. The bubble is going to stay in there. It shouldn't be under PCs anyway. So here it goes. A few pics.

First, Specs. 10g tank with 13lbs LR and 12lbs LS. I run a Rio Nanoskimmer, an airstone and a Koralia-Nano. So I am running about 35x turnover.

Inhabitants: Two Ocellaris clowns, frogspawn (two heads), bubble coral (one head), Mushroom rock (~10 shrooms), 20 or so dwarf ceriths and 5 florida ceriths. I may also have a small crab in there. Don't know. Haven't seen it in six or seven months.

My frogspawn. I was wondering if the percs would host it, but they have not so far. I am still far from completion with this set up and it's inhabitants. Now, usually I will photoshop the pics to look match what I see. My camera bleaches the colors out a bit. But when I did my usual with the FS, it turned out badly, so this is not photoshopped at all.

My bubble coral. It is much happier under the T5s.

Now here is an extra I got a few days ago. The best $28 I have ever spent. It is very accurate and actually matched what my swing-arm hydrometer was giving me. I was a little nervous about that.

SAAAAAWWWEEEEEEEET! Nice nano dude. And nice to be able to move some corals for their well being. Also nice to see I'm not the only one running an airstone in a DT in the world ;)

Honestly? I am not too impressed with it. I have been messing with it for the better part of a month now, and while I have a basic understanding of how to use it, I just do not get as much skimmate as I would like. My tank is not so clean that it would not bring anything out.

If I had to do it all over again I would get the Remora. The regular Remora is good upto 20g. If and when I upgrade to 20 or above, I am going for the Remora Pro.

And really, you don't need a skimmer on a 10g tank anyway. A little mechanical/chemical filtration system probably does just as well or better when combined with water changes.
