I have about 100gph going through the reactor for my GAC. To me, it is worth the extra for the peace of mind knowing that my reactor won't leak even if the flow is extremely high. You never know when your out of town help will turn a knob or have a kid play with the valve when your not looking. It is also much larger than the TLF 150 reactor and just better made.

Thanks for the input everyone, the only affordable one in my city is the phosban 150 by TLF, and I don't shop online, the reviews for this reactor are really great too, thanks again everyone.

Really? That slow for GFO? I am thinking about getting a reactor from BRS and am hedging and hawing about which Maxi Jet pump I should get with it. I'd like to get the 600 because it uses significantly less power but not sure if that's enough power. I like your idea of using carbon sparingly.

People keep telling me to stay away from hooking it up like they show in Diagram 2 of that manual, but to me it makes sense as long as your return pump is strong enough and you put a valve on the intake of the reactor to keep flow slow.

I have the Bulk Reef Supply GFO media reactor. I got it about 1 month ago (Jan, 13) and just noticed some differences this week. It will take a while but it is definitely worth the wait. I run a maxi jet 1200 cause that is what they told me but he is correct, you only need about 15 to 20 gph. I am starting to see less and less algae every day after the month it has been in there! I do run their gfo granular and it worked out great and extreamly easy to install. I would definitely recommend one!!!!

Yes, they are great products!!!! I think when they say they would recommend "you get two seperate ones it is better" it is a scam. They would make more money off two seperate! ahahaha I wasen't born yesterday!!! LOL

I don't see a problem with it, so long as you dial back the valve appropriately.

The TLF reactors are defnitely known to leak if you place the valve on the wrong line however. Do not restrict the flow going out, only restrict the flow going in.

Essentially, if you effectively pressurize the TLF reactor, it will leak. I suppose the issue with figure 2 could be some pressurization due to the head of the exit line.

I'm planning on getting the deluxe reactor from BRS so leaking shouldn't be an issue. I would just have to get the necessary plumbing parts (Y connectors, clamps , etc) to get it to work.
