So I've had a GHA problem for about 2 months without resolve. I've done all the normal stuff(cut down on feedings, water topoff with RO/DI, nitrate & phosphate low...I know that algae can make these low...) My lights are 3 months old. I pull the junk off every week during my wc's and it all grows back. I installed an extra powerhead( I now have 3) and a UV sterilizer. I'm currently running GFO in my canister filter...would a phosban reactor be a better choice?? I noticed no difference whatsoever when I added the GFO. I'll make the investment if it will be a significant advantage over the GFO in my canister. That is if phosphate is even the problem.

The filter should be fine, I would go along with reef_guru and say that adding a refugium will greatly help. I just added one to my sump, it cost next to nothing. I had little cyno problem and it's already much better since I added the cheato to the refugium.

Respectfully...many aquarists with a refugium still are plagued with GHA. Since I added a Visa Aqua Phosphate reactor (nearly a year ago) no GHA. It took about 3 weeks if I recall for most of it to die off.

It may not cure your situation but GFO does work better in a reactor. Slower flows equal longer contact time which is key with products like that.

what are your exact water parameters?

There are many factors, including external ones (ie: windows, temp, etc) that could have an affect on your gha problem.

Mexican Turbo snails but they are also bulldozers when it comes to moving corals around too. They rearrange my corals or a regular basis, I think its to force me to pay attention to my tank!

I've got a clean up crew(snails andblue hermits) won't touch the stuff. Nitrate-10, nitrite-0,pH-8.6, Calcium-390, haven't tested Mg in a few weeks but it has always been fine, Phosphate-0, dKh-12.

There is ambient light in the room, but nothing direct. I was thinking anout covering the tank with a sheet during the day for a week just to see if anything happens.
