Hey Everyone- I just installed a Phosband 150 Reactor to my 120 and filled it about halfway with Charcoal. When the pump is on I can see the media tumbling in the reactor.. I think all is well just wanted to make sure. Also I know Carbon help with water clarity. Does it provide or take away anything else to the marine environment?

With carbon you want less free space between the particles. You should pack it full to get better results. Media such as phosban is better to have packed in more loosely.

Oh and carbon will help with clarity, smell, takes out medications and also removes chemicals some corals and anemones can put out to harm other corals anemones.

Make sure you use good quality carbon and rinse it very well or it can leech phostfates into your water.

I think things in reactors are suppose to be tight so it doesn't tumble. When it tumbles over time things grind on each other and reduce the particles to powdery substance that will get back in the aquarium.
I have an el cheapo reactor that allows the sponges to adjust up and down .. does yours have that ability? If so just move the sponges to be tighter.

Yeah carbon should not tumble, phosphate remover, at least the GFO I use is supposed to tumble a little bit. Try dialing your feed pump back.

I actually set one of these up yesterday, to help remove the medication that I'd been using on my system for the last week or so (along with water changes of course). I didn't know about the "no tumbling" thing, and simply filled it up with carbon per the instructions. I appreciate the advice and will adjust it accordingly.

Ok, so I apparently really messed this up somehow. I rinsed the carbon as directed, but see a lot of black in my skimmer (no doubt carbon). So now that I've obviously gotten this stuff into my tank, how do I get it out of my tank? Thanks.

Shouldnt make a huge impact. Even if you fully rinse carbon black always comes out at least a little. Check your phosfates.

Thanks, will do. This is supposed to be "phosphate free", but better safe than sorry.

I just tried to stop my tumbling and can't unless I fill the entire reactor with carbon as there is no adjustment in the plastic grate the holds the sponge in place. Is it possible to run too much carbon?
