you replace it whenever your phosphates start rising.

haha well its roughly $40 per pound (smallest unit) so i just wanted to see when people usually need to replace it. O ya and will one pound of this stuff fill up that whole reaction chamber or will i need more? or will i not use the whole bag?

it doesn't take much about 1 gram per gallon is a general rule of thumb

o well 1 pound comes with 453 grams so i guess the price isnt that bad. I guess ill give it a shot along with the reactor i listed above. Thanks all!

RowaPhos is just one example of a Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) based phosphate reducing media. The reported advantage of this type of media is that it will never leach removed phosphates back into your tank if the media gets old. The "white stuff" can't make the same claim.

From what I've read from those I implicitly trust on this site, GFO is the way to go. Yes it is more expensive, but you know at this point that you really do get what you pay for.

I replace every 6 weeks at most. I have not used it for a while but have a bag in the basement that I was going to throw in the 2 reactors and clean it up a bit.
