Kinda depends on a few factors. How bad do you have cyano? What else have you changed as a preventative? Did you manually remove what you could after you put the bag in?

There are a few ways to remove it.
Very carefully with hands. Be ready with a net.
Stir the cyano into the water column and let your mechanical filtration pick it up.
Do a small water change and carefully suck it through siphon hose. Being careful not to disturb the sandbed too much.
They sell commercial products that remove the cyano.

Do you know where your PO[SUB]4[/SUB] is coming from?

You should also make sure to control your feeding as much as possible. Feed once every three days and it should speed up the process.

Cyano is not 100% phos based like GHA or other algaes.. it is more of a nitrate/flow issue.. make sure you got flow in those areas... let your filtration take care of it..

Time. Give the phosphate remover a chance to start taking effect and do some of the other mentioned techniques. Try to find the source of the problem so you can fix that too.

You cant really just toss the bag in. You need a reactor or a power filter to run it in. If the water is not actually being forced through the media, it's not going to work well at all.
