The first thing I would check is the TDS. Do you run a phosban reactor at all? That would help some too.

This also brings up a question on the bulbs.

How often should they be replaced? Mine currently have about 12 months on them (bought the setup used) and figured that was fine for acclimation for the next month. But should they be replaced after that or are they good for a few months yet?

Sadly I have given that some thought , if you have looked at my tank thread you can see the absoulute filth that had been trapped by the filters in my RO system.
Ive had that RO unit for sevral years and changed filters out every year, ( habbit ).
The only thing i can think of was when the city did some major tearing up of the water lines down the street a few months ago to have caused the nasty filth that was trapped in the last filter membranes.

But i have changed them out since then like 4 weeks ago,
( only have like 2 water changes off the new replacements ).

It's probably the same stuff growing you clean off the front and sides of your glass with the magnetic (mag float...) glass scrubber.

If you clean the algae inside the tank it will not go away! the spores wil just stay in the water column, and as reef said long periods of lighting will promote some algae growth of some kind, I have my nitrates below 5ppm as in right now and for the past 2mo. or so and the phosphates, have always been undetected, but trust me! my actinics run close to 1hr before and after my daylights come on and off, for a total of 9 or less day cycle hour period and still get algae, like I mention before is not brown diatome but it is cyano and also lha, and are planning on reducing the light period asap...If by any means when scrubbing the algae try doing a wc short after or some wet skimming.
    will help greatly >))))*>
