    Hi,
I have a yellow watchman goby, and I plan to get a pistol shrimp.

But before I do I want to research this little guy. So please educate me a little about your experiences with one. What are they compatible with, or not compatible...?

    Thanks.

okay basically with the pair it's a hit or miss, most of the times being miss.. because the pistol shrimp likes shaded areas or dim lighting, so it'll probably end up somewhere under your rockwork.. in my case, it's all the way at the back let corner of my tank, made a tunnel that goes left to right, so i don't EVER see this pistol unless i go on the back of my tank and lift up my background.. if you just keep the yellow watchman by itself, at least it'll be pretty active, if you get a shrimp with it and once they pair and the shrimp chooses a spot at the back of your tank, you'll never see it.. don't get me wrong, people have had success having it make its burrow at the front of the tank, but chances are.. you need to take that risk.. plus you risk having the pistol shrimp scavenging on small fish, many people thikn the pistol shrimp is a pest.. if i had a chance to go back in time, i will not keep this pistol again..

not to mention, i redid my rock work once just and made it a burrow at the front of the tank to see if he'll stay at the front, nope! the lights go off, off he goes to the back of the tank AGAIN.. and really, it's not all that interesting to tell you the truth, at least IMO.. go watch it on youtube when you get the itch, on youtube, you actually see the pistol and the watchman!!!

mine is very cool...I had a pink spotted shrimp goby in my tank and a couple months later found a tiger pistol shrimp at a LFS. They did not even know they had it...was a hitchhicker in one of their rocks. So I bought it stuck it in my tank and for 2 days never saw it. I have over 150 pounds of rock and thought...well that was yet another waste of money...a couple days later I see this little thing next to my shrimp goby...they paired up and have stayed together since. I had even rearranged the rocks and forgot about them and rearranged their den and they just made a new one..in the similar spot.
I was lucky though mine set up the den in the front right corner of the tank. But like said before it is hit and miss. My shrimp does not come out a lot but I see him maybe a couple times a week

not the best picture but here you go

Very cool! I can view both sides of two of my tanks as I built them into my wall. The watchman lives in my refugium, that basically looks as nice as anyother tank I have...LOL I built this fuge to simulate a DT.

Thanks for advise, it seems like its a flip of the coin... I think it would be cool to see them pair up, my watchman has a nice little den right now, I'm so curious to see if the pistol would invite himself in... Guess I'll have to give it a shot.

Has anyone ever lost any fish to this shrimp?

I built my tank planng on getting one to pair with a goby. I made diy rocks and if you go to the GARF website they show you i made tripods for my bas rocks so i can see in. I see my pistol every day, he comes out with my orange spotted watchman when i put food in. My only complaint is that he makes big sand clouds that land all over my coral. It is a good thing though, for the sand. I gave him rubbel and shells and he builds walls. It is quite entertaining. My pistol is 3 inches and does not bother my little sheeps head minnows, and they sleep under hs rocks at night.
