ive got a 90 gallon reef tank running for almost 2 years with a seaclone 100 skimmer (crappy i know) and a penguin 400 for filtration plus 2 powerheads for circulation. its sitting on top of a dresser in my bedroom. i dont want to make the tank a drilled tank. would i be able to use an overflow box down to fuge on the stand next to the dresser and have a pump put the water back into the tank...or would i need a sump for that?

my head is spinning due to the complications of looking all over the place for some advice.

Not sure what your asking . Yes you can use a overflow box down to another tank whether it be a sump or a fuge and pump it back up to the main display tank. There are also sump/fuge combos

The fuge or sump needs to be below the main display tank so gravity can take the water from the OF.

if i were to use an overflow box to drain the tank into the fuge...what would stop water from flooding out in case power goes out from my pump?

You have to make sure you sump or fuge can hold the displacement of water down to the top lip of your overflow if power has shut off. You can use the calculators on this sight to see how much water is going to drain by adding LxWxH. As soon as the water gets low enough to break syphon then it will stop.
