This plant was located in my friends lr and then rapidly grew throughout his entire tank. I trimmed some and plan on putting it in my refugium if it is good for the tank.

looks like grape chaulerpa to me, IMO, I'd keep it out, it can go sexual and become a problem

Does it help with biological filtration at all? I have two tangs in my display tank and if it went sexual I could see them eating it all

thats a viable option. what tangs? Ya can cut it and feed it to them, its just a risk, I'd make sure they find it yummy before adding it, it can grow like wildfire. And yes it does help to nutrient export, but so does Chaeto without the disadvantage of it becoming a problem.

I will test it with my tangs now. I have a yellow tang and a blue hippo tang.

ya may be ok, do you have a sump or fuge? IMO, it may be nice for you to supplememnt the tangs diet with fresh algae, but be aware of it going sexual and be ready for it;)

Yes I have a refuge and there is enough lighting and space for it :) The fish just recently ate so I will test it in the morning.

The binomial name for green grape Caulerpa is Caulerpa racemosa. It's a fast-grower, so you'll want to keep it pruned to control it.

If you see parts of it go white with green specks in it, promptly remove them, as this is the signal that the macro is about to go sexual (the green specks being the gametes). Don't confuse this with actively-growing tips, which appear whitish.
