if I put a 1/8th inch peice of clear lexan over my refugium, would my lighting for it still be effective? would it melt? I dont want to deal with all the evaporation and salt on the light and the cabinate.
    thanks

I don't think you would have a lighting problem, just as long as you remove it from time to time to clean the salt that's on it. As far as would it melt depends on how close you will be placing the light over your fuge. Just my thoughts

    I don't blame you!

Can you move the light to the side, so it's shining through the glass side of the refugium? If you're using tupperware or something else as a refugium, would it be possible to upgrade to a glass sided refugium, like a small aquarium?

I have a cover on mine -- not sure if its lexan or what its made out of but the light does sit avout 1/2 inch above and have not had any melting issues or reduction in growth of the cheato/mangroves

you could always get a piece of glass cut at lowes or your local glass company. I get most of my glass cut there and its always about $3.50 a piece..
