Could someone please help me to identify this strange creature I found in my tank today? It may be hard to tell by the picture but it is growing in a shaded area and looks like a spider web with tentacles and long brown feelers. Kind of reminds me of something from a Saturday night movie on SyFy channel.

My tank has been up and running for around 10 weeks and we have not added any live rock or anything else in the past month.

    Thanks

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Looks like either:

    A molt from a shrimp.

    A sponge.

Or a molt and a sponge.

    Both harmless.

We do have a couple of shrimp, so a molt makes sense. So I guess a small tactical nuke is probably uncalled for then :)

    Thanks

if you leave it in hermit crabs, crabs and or shrimp will often eat it to gain iodine.
