Hello to all....I got a tight situation here..hope someone can help me out.Bare with me...I'm gonna try to get to the point quickly.
A week ago I moved to a new house.I had to break down my 90 gallon display and 30 gallon sump...during the transport we hit a real bad bump and cracked my sump to the point of no return...We stopped at the L.F.S and bought a new 30 gallon tank(sump).I cut out the dividers from the cracked sump and siliconed them into the new sump that night...2 days later...I started to fill the new sump with all the live rock and as much water that was left from the prior set up...about 15 gallons...YES I took all the all the water too..(90 gallons from the display, 30 gallons from the sump)...give or take a few gallons due to rock volume.
Today (one week later) My skimmer and my reactors are in my display tank keeping my live stock healthy...my sump has been running for 3 days now(not connected to display tank)The reason being is i wanted to build up as much bacteria in the sump that I can..before hooking it back up to my display tank.

So here is my question....when will it be safe to connect my sump to my display again? My concern is hooking a new sump full of silicates to an established tank and possibly risking a mini cycle.

My tank info...205lbs live rock,80lbs of live sand
My sump info...50lbs live rock,40 lbs live sand.

Thanks all advice is very much appreciated!!! :)

you test the sump to see if it is cycled if the readings are good then imo you can connect it up

Why would your sump be fool of silicates? did you use brand new play sand or a silica based sand?

Personally i would connect your sump asap to your setup. When the water and biological matter come down from the DT to your sump, your levels will take some readjusting to the new volume and if you used new sand or not. Waiting for the sump to cycle on its own with little waste being added, or you add it to your system and let it balance. If you wait i feel you will have a mini cycle by leaving them running on different stuff. Ie.e your dt tank is getting waste, skimmer, and reactors. While your sump is not so the two will not be the same, and the longer they stay seperate the levels will become that further off.
