Shi...........oh my. I have turned over 2 water changes with this oceanic salt and didnt know what was up. Rember the post from my about my xenias shrinking to nothing and turning dark brown? Yep you guessed it. I did a 50% water change that day because my RO unit had been down and I wanted to rid my tank of the tap water I had used and the algea problems. I had tested everything but the PH. Guess that explaines alot. I used it in my 30 gallon with all my corals and a load of inverts and some fish and they never looked better. But that was from separate packages of salt. What do you use BL?

Jay...............How is the 2 part stuff that Craig recomends?

Marine Environment 2 Part Salt. ;D I do like it. Everything looks good and no algae, but Ido have some trouble keeping my calcium up....but I think it is the RO/DI water and I was not the most diligent....I have changed my ways! ::)

Glad your xenia id doing well....mine pulse and multiply like crazy!!!

I will just put my 2 cents in and hopefully it will relive some anxiety about using Oceanic Salt Mix. ;) I have been using it since I set my tank up and the highest my Calcium has been was 450 and the lowest was 395 ........ John

i appreciate all the advice again. It was my understanding that the first few lots of Oceanic salt were very high in calcium.Iguess i was lucky enough to get some of that batch...lol.....Any suggestions on lowering Phos Alk and calcium, also has any one used a phosban phosphate reactor? Again thanks a million for the responses.......

I don't know if this is the right or recomended way but it works for me. I have well water and by the time it works its way through ro/di my ph is low so i add kent marine buffer then mix my salt in later, I don't know what roll the low ph plays in my calcium/alk. tests but if I don't buffer the water my calcium is high but not to high and my alk is low. Oceanic Is by far my favorite salt mix, all my tests of the mixed water prior to adding it to the tank are consistant. It requires alot more mixing time than some of the other brands but my tank is alot more predictable.
