my daughter has a stable 2 yr old 10 gallon tank with mushrooms lr and a clownfish.i'm using a hob filter but want to install a 10 gallon sump to put cheatto in and do away with the hob filter, its too loud.my plan is to drill a drain hole in the back glass pain to the sump and return it by plastic pipe run over the edge back into the display so i only need to drill one hole.i have 2 questions.am i going about this the right way?and is there a kit i can by for a 10 gallon tank to make it reef ready so i don't have to spend hours at the hardware store trying to find the right pipe and fittings?thanks for any help

No Kits that I'm aware of. You will kind of need a small type overflow also just sticking a bulkhead through the rear of the tank never really works well Send me some pictures of the type tank and what you want and I can maybe put you a total retrofit package together..

Ya unfortunately I to am unaware of a Kit. But Tangster has set up thousands of tanks. What he can put together will rock.
I would make a small overflow box inside the tank.

my friend has been working on a 10 gallon reef tank for some time now, be careful drilling and attaching the bulkheads. we had to go through something like 3 or 4 tanks trying to drill the center hole for the return. twice the glass cracked when attaching the bulkhead, once was neglagence, and the final break was after it had been filled with water for about 5 hours, the glass just gave way. here are some pics of the tank before the bottom cracked.

wow thankyou soo much.i see now that i'm not going to be able to drill the bottom.i'm going to either try to replace the bottom with thick plastic,or just get a plastic tank for her and drill that.i just don't like how plastic sometimes gets foggy.

yup that is what he plans to do, well the thicker acrlyic bottom re-enforcement. he just ran out of money at that point.

putting a acrylic bottom in a glass tank might not be the best choice.the plastic will flex but the glass won't.i'm going to see if i can get a 3/8th inch thick peice of glass drilled and cut to replace the bottom pain with.glass cages.com wants $36 for a acrylic tank but i want glass.

When I was putting together tanks like this I used to have a section built for a wet/dry or a fuge in the rear and all was ran on a small maxi jet But all was hidden from front view. And as for drilling smaller tanks Best have good bits and a drill press . Thicker the glass easier the drilling.

if you use a thick enough acrlyic it won't bend.
