In my 5.5g mantis tank I have a little fuge section with Chaeto. I knew it was a breeding ground for Pods, but I didn't know it would be this bad. THEY'RE EVERYWHERE. Does anyone have an idea on pods that reproduce exponentially overnight?

How new is the tank? I've seen this happen a few times in newer tanks. It will eventually settle down. POD's is a good thing as stated above =).

It's a relatively new tank yes, one or two months old.

Pods bloom in relation to the available food sources as well as lack of predation. Since your tank is new, they'll bloom, and die back or be eaten by other types of pods which will then bloom until the smaller pods are gone.

The progression usually goes like this:

    Copepods
    Isopods
    Amphipods
    Mysids

    Don't worry...just enjoy the show.

There's a 3" N. Wennerae and a Turbo snail the size of a tennis ball. Literally no predation, and it looks like it's getting worse.

If you have macro, you'll have more pods, so you could remove the macro, which may help some.

Do you know what kind of pods you have? Live mysis will prey on most types of pods, and since mysids are cannabalistic, they tend to keep themselves in check.

You could always collect them and give them to a friend who has fish (if you don't have a fish tank or reef).
