Not trying to jack your thread but I wanna put them in my fuge as well. Do they find there own way to the DT and survive the trip through the return pump?

Yes, they can find their way from the fuge to the DT via the return pump. But not in large numbers. I keep some chaeto in the fuge, and once in a while I shake off the chaeto into the DT to release pods (which love to infest chaeto). You can also use a sponge or loufa in the fuge for this.

If I just give it time will they find there own way and populate my tank and keep the pop level stable or should I shake a sponge once and a while?
