I've never tried it myself but I've heard mixing baking soda into a paste with hot water works when smeared all over the area.

Bendryl is good - Anti-itch and Anti-inflamatory...but it can make your drowsy. The Benedryl cream also works well....

OK guys, here advice from an ER Doc with 30+ years experience. Use the strongest hydrocortisone cream or ointment the druggist will sell you. Oral steroids are better, but they require an Rx. DON'T use benedryl cream. It can make the immune response worse, as many people become allergic to it topically. Benedryl orally is good but some of the other over the counter allergy medicines (Tavist, Zyrtec) are not as likely to make you sleepy.

One of the times I got a bad poison ivy rash I asked my doctor about getting a shot....he said that the shot is only good before getting into the poison ivy, not after. It sounded kinda dumb to me, how often do you plan to get into poison ivy!?!

sorry I don't have any good info, hope you get it figured out and get better!:)

tecnu works wonders. my daughter had poison ivy on the side of her face we put tecnu on it and it was gone in minutes. the only thing was her face stayed swollen for a couple hours but no rash or iching or pain. it is expensive but worth the money. about $15 a bottle.

I've tried tecnu a few times but am not sure it worked too well for me. I don't use anything now, I guess I've just gotten used to it.

I know it's a little late for this advice, but maybe it'll help for next time. If you know you've been in poison ivy, you want to wash the oils from the leaves off your skin as soon as possible. I always use cold water cause I think it keeps your pores from opening as opposed to hot water (I could be wrong about that!) and I use dish-soap like Dawn to wash everything off really well.

Once there are no oils from the poison ivy leaves, you won't be able to spread it onto other parts of your body. Usually when people see rashes spread to other parts of their body days later it's because a lower concentration of the oils touched that area....for example if you scratch other parts of your body with traces of the oils on your hands. if you scratch the blisters, it won't spread the rash...the blisters just have fluids from your body but not oils from the ivy...unless you didn't wash it off!
