I was watching my tank the other day when I noticed a powery substance being ejected from behind a piece of lr. I couldn't get in to see where is was coming from but it looked like small clouds of smoke, similar to smoke signals. Does anyone have any ideas about what it could be and is it good or bad.

when bristle worms bore through rock they will blow out the debris.
I see cloud puff out of my rocks on occasion also.

Thanks RHorton. I wasn't even aware that I had bristle worms but after 3 months in operation I'm all sorts of new creatures.

Yeah I've see Goby's do this but if you do not have a goby I would go with the bristle worm..

I've seen mythrax crabs do this also. I have one huge one in my tank. Whenever I see the dust cloud I look and sure enough there is Bruiser the crab.

that would help :D At any rate, I even have fish that move sand around. My clownfish is constantly fighting the powerheads for control over where the sand goes LOL it's hilarious. What about wrasses? They burrow as well.. Could just be a powerhead too. Could be many things, but I wouldn't worry too much.

Look for the snails that look like they have a soft shell...more like a slug..It IS the way they spawn..watched it happen..pretty cool.
