I just recently started a 36 gallon bowfront tank. I have a two bulb T5HO light unit with a 10,000k bulb and a 420nm bulb. My next purchase will be powerheads for the tank, though I know nothing about them nor which units I'd need. This being my first reef tank my first corals will most definitely be those which are considered easier corals. What type of powerheads should I buy?

Unless you love the look of the bubblers they are not needed for a reef tank.

As for powerheads, vortech are number 1 but very expensive. Hydor Koralia seem to be the powerhead of choice for those on a budget.

The Hydor Koralia will be most likely what I will purchase. However I don't know which one or ones I should buy and how they should be set up in the tank, basically I don't have a clue what GPH I would need or where they should be placed in the tank. Excuse my n00bness.

I would go with between 1300-2000 gph depending on what corals you'll be going with. I think two 750s pointed at each other from the sides would work well.

no worries, what are your stocking plans? as far as corals, but 2X hydor evos 550's are fine to start with 750's to the 1050s if you want sps

    I have 1 750 and 2 425s on my 46gal bowfront. Wish I had more flow sometimes

    I have 1 HK750 in my 20, and it's plenty!

Agreed, it depends on your stocking plans. "Easier" corals are generally softies and LPS that fall into the low-light, low-flow category. FWIW, I have a total of 20x turnover in my 29h, and my leathers, mushrooms and polyps are happy as a clam.
