I've already decided that I'm going with hydor koralia. I've got a 46BF tank and I'm not sure how much flow I should have. I'm tossed between the nano 240gph and the 1's 400gph. Any advice on what I might need?:):)

I would use at least two k1s. two k1s and a k nano would be even better. what are you planning on keeping?

Two K2s at an absolute minimum and two K3s if you plan on keeping SPS and LPS corals. I have a K1 on my 16G bowfront and its really pathetic. I have two K4s and an K3 on other systems and love them, in fact I use a K3 in my 20 gallon frag tank and its not too much. You will be really disappointed in anything less than a K2.

I would suggest at least 2 koralia 1s. The nanos are made for very small tanks. Even the 1s are pretty pathetic. If you plan on doing a hard coral sps tank, they require ALOT of flow. Then I would go with 2 koralia 3s as long as you have enough live rock so your sand doesnt start flying. I have 2 k3s on my 72 and I need more flow. Most people try to get around 40 times the turnover compared to their tank size. so 46 gallons x 40=1840gph. That would be 2 koralia 3s. Do you have a sump? you will count your return pump in the gph if you have one.

If you plan to do a mixed reef. I would suggest 2 koralia 2s. If you plan on doing a sps only tank, get the 3s.

I went with two Koralia 1's on my 46 BF, which were fine for a while. As I added corals, I put in another Koralia 1 for added flow. I'm happy with the combination and the corals are doing well.
