    Problem With Algae. Help Please.

Hey I am kind of new to this whole salt water tank thing. We have been up and running now for about 3 weeks. We have 55lbs of live rock and have our lights on for a max of 8 hrs. We are getting in spots a discoloration in the sand and on our rocks have a green algae on them. Someone said it could be LHA but I'm not sure if it is or not. We are running a Trickle filter with protein skimmer and a MAG350 canister filter with Carbon. We tested the other day an everything seemed to be in order. Now i guess what i am unsure of is what is good alage and what is bad alage. To me i dont like the green alage on the rocks and on the coral but i cant tell if its good or not. Do you guys try and keep your tank really clean of alage?. It's starting to stick to my powerheads and rocks and my tube coral. An suggestions or additives to try. Help and suggestions are appreciated. If pictures are needed i can post them later.

The algae you are seeing is microalgae (on the sand) and possibly nuisance macroalgae(green stuff). If I were you, I'd quit running your lights until your cycle is done.

and you're tellin' us it's been up 3 weeks? How did you get it to cycle in 3 weeks!? Hmm...well, about the sand bed. I'm not sure. But you're tank seems very stocked for only 3 weeks!!
