is there a proper clear silicone to use to seal up a drilled hole in a tank? im getting 2 55 gallon tanks for a friend that have been drilled that he will want closed up. hes using them just to keep his pond fish in for the winter. i figure some acrylic and silicone should do the trick. just wanted to make sure i gt the right stuff. thnx in advance.

I would probably put a bulkheads in the holes with plugs because silicone doesn't stick to acrylic to well.If your gonna go the silicone route go to a glass shop and have them cut you some pieces of glass, shouldn't be much and it will hold alot better.

+1 on getting a glass shop to cut you the glass to patch the holes, why doesnt the owner of the koi want to make a simple wetdry and use the overflows?

I would stick bulkheads with plugs in the holes for a better seal myself. That or use glass instead of acrylic.

thnx fellas. that was my next question. i didnt think the acrylic would adhere , so was gonna go with glass for him. these tanks arent gonna be displayed really, just a holding tank basically for over winter.

Yeah, just get a tube of GE silicone 1, (not the II as it has mildewcide which is not reef or fish safe) and have a piece of glass to patch the hole with.
