I purchased a pulsing xenia frag from my LFS about 6 months ago. During the first two weeks it tripled in size, however, since then it moved to the highest point on the piece of LR it was on, gotten very stringy, stopped growing, and just recently developed what appears to be a lesion on the side. The color of the coral has always been good but it has never really "pulsed" at all. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Xenia not growing? Are you sure it's a xenia:)? But I would start by moving it back to wherever it was in the tank. You might consider an appropriate dip or something. Not pulsing could be a sign of low PH (i forget, or too high; but check your PH with a new, high quality test kit (i'm not saying yours isn't.)) Did anything else change in the tank?

When in doubt, try to get your params perfected. Take out bad; put in good (phyto/light/calc.,mag., iodine, strontium.)

Pulsing xenia can be strange.. I think move it lower for awhile..
    What lights do you have..?
I have it on the bottom, on the top, etc.. all does good..
You say it has a cut..? Could something be messing with it..? Do you have it near other Corals..?

    Good Luck, Larry

xenia may or may not pulse and is never governed by something being wrong with water quality.
If there is a lesion on it I would assume something is either nipping at it (a fish or invert), or some type of coral warfare may be occuring.
What else do you have in your tank?
