i just got my first nice, large specimen, it is pulsing xenia. my question is how much flow should it be receiving. mine is in constant motion and in a fairly mixed area, meaning it is never blowing in just one constant direction. it is not being thrashed by the current, but always moving around. is this ok? i was told by the coral guy it was a good beginning choice because it is hardy and adaptable. also do any of yours actually pulse or does it have to be still in order to do that

Mine pulses constantly, its in a low flow spot with high light.Given strong light it will grow and spread quickly,I have some frogspawn near mine that stings it and helps keep it from spreading too far.I moved a small stalk of it to another tank that has low lighting and it is doing ok and still pulses but is not growing much or spreading.

I've heard of people having it in both low and high flow. At first I had mine in an area of low flow and it did alright, but now i've moved it to an area of moderate-high flow and it seems to be doing even better. The flow seems do differ between different people, but just about everyone says it needs high light. (You can look at my My Photos album to see where i have mine) Hope I helped :)

    That's perfect.

As far as pulsing, sometimes they do, and sometimes not. Most I've had pulsed continuously, but there have been periods where they don't. When it's "still" the pulsing, if it is pulsing, is more pronounced because it's the only movement you'll see.

Sounds like you're off to a great start!

I had a really nice specimen of Pom Pom pulsing zenia (a main central stalk and a "ball" of heads that pulsed). It did not spread rapidly like other pulsing zenias which I ended up eventually taking out of my tank because they did start to smother other corals. My Pom Pom got pushed off my rocks by a turbo snail (it was on it's own smaller rock when I got it) and got damaged to the extent that it tore and actually died. So I no longer have any in my tank at this time to share more accurate growth info. I would like to get another Pom Pom as I really liked the shape. It was also in a high light but lower flow area so pulsed a lot.
