Purigen and Bubbles

    Cut back on how much you are feeding if you are at 30ppm nitrate. Clean all filters thoroughly. Remove detritus throughout your system, use a turkey baster on your rock before the water change. If you are using carbon change it every two weeks, longer than that it becomes colonized by nitrifying bacteria.

    Your system has as much bacteria as it can produce successfully.

    Put chaetomorpha algae in a lighted refugium to remove the nitrates.

    not sure on the phenomenum your describing, mine went in early doors, so a set up started with base rock, so no build up of nutrients in the rock

    I have used purigen for a long time and have never had what you are describing happen. Maybe it is mixing w/ something in your tank tank and causing the bubbles. Did you rinse it before use?

    Yes, I soaked the small pouch in a bucket of RO/DI water.
