just did weekly clean of my nano's canister and swapped out the old carbon for a pack of purigen like the LFS suggested. didnt sound like a bad idea.
unfortunately the bag of purigen i got was partly split down one side and turning the filter back on turned my nano into a snow globe.
i did turn the filter off pretty quickly, but enough came through to notice.
the only way i can see of fishing it out of the tank would be to tear eveything out, dust off the rock and replace the sand.
will a small amount of purigen in the tank do anything bad enough to warrant a rebuild?
theres only an oc clown and a strombus snail in there atm.

could only find one spare media bag but doesnt seem fine enough to hold it.
will my tank be ok without carbon/purigen for a week til i can get back to the LFS?
or should i put the old carbon back in? has been in there 2 weeks already:-/

probably should have noticed a problem while it was being rinsed, next time i'll inspect a little better.

You should be OK on both points. Purigen will mot release anything it adsorbs.

Agreed - my bags have ripped over the years and I have a fair amount of Purigen in my system (as well as Chemi-Clean and other media's that have gotten away from me). No worries. Also agree that a week absent of media isn't a problem - tho I am a bit of a carbon junky so I would probably run the carbon for the week....but that's just me :)

+1 on the other 2 posts

its happened to me also - those welded seams are a bit suspect on occasions
no ill effects from the purigen in the DT as far as I can tell

Purigen won't leech back to the tank but carbon will so don't put the old carbon back in.

i had a feeling the carbon might have been in there a bit too long to be very effective anyway

    thanks :)
