Atleast I think it is, I have some purple cyano growing if there is such thing as purple cyno. Its slimey and such.

Any idea how to get rid of it? Its not coraline algae, like said above its slimey, and I never even seen or heard of purple cyano

    ammonia 0
    nitrite 0
    nitrate 2
salinity 1.022 yes I know my salinity is low, I think its time for me to get another hydrometer its getting inaccurate, or just buy refrectometer. This salinity was tested at LFS with their refrectometer, my hydrometer tested 1.026.
    Cal: 450
    Mag: 1440
    Ph: 8.4
Alk:8.2 Dkh. My guess of this algae, due to low alk.
    phosphate I dont know.

I have mp10 on 60% reef crest mode on a cube Solana 34 gallon tank, So I dont think flow is an issue? maybe it is? it at the edge of the tank after all though where low flow is most likley so maybe its that

Test your phosphates that will let you know if you have more troubles coming your way. Siphon out the cyano and the sand that it is on. Use rodi water, gfo to remove phosphates and cut back on feeding.

Buy a refractometer, for the price of 2 hydrometers you will get a much better device and it will last much longer also.

I have no clue. The way it is sticking to the rock is like cyano bacteria, but I've never seen it in that shade of purple. It is usually a wine color...and somewhat see-thru.

How long has it been there? It appears to be forming osculums like a newly-developing colony of purple encrusting sponge.

for couple days, I use to scrape it off with my finger, but they kept coming back. It felt like as if I was getting rid of a cyano though.

Typically though, cyano doesn't grow in just one spot once it gets a start in your tank, and it usually vacuums off rather easily- no scraping required. Had it a couple times, myself.

Not going to swear that it's sponge, but sponge will be soft and slimy, will grow in one place on a rock, and will keep coming back after scraping it off as you are not getting all of it out of the pores in the rock. My neighbor has some in his tank, BTW. His Blue Regal Tang loves it. :)

When I looked at it again, it does appear to be a sponge.

Does there appear to be any form of a mouth? Check out this thread. 3rd post, 8th photo. The thread was for frags being sold, but this was identified a s a "Hardy Purple Sponge." I am sure there is a more specific name for it.
