So I read some good things about Purple Up, and thought I'd give it a try. I did my first dose last night before I hit the sack. I woke up this morning to a boatload of greenish algae covering a lot of my glass. Is this a normal part of the purple up process?

I personally would't use this product. Keep your parameters right and it will do the same thing without additives. Cal, Mag, Alk,

Purple up is just a calcium suppliment and there isn't anything especial or fancy about it. As far as the algae growth is concerned, I think it may just be coincidense. Calcium shouldn't cause a spike in your algae growth.

The product claims, and some folks seem to back up, that it will help speed up the coralline algae process. Some users have said that this stuff helped even though their parameters were correct, which mine have been. So, I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm certainly not going to use it for ongoing parameter control.

There's probably more threads about Purple up than anything else. It is nothing more than clever marketing. There is nothing special in purple up that helps coraline grow faster than normal. Keep normal calcium and magnesium levels and it will grow the same. The difference is purple up cost a fortune on a per oz. basis compared to normal supplements.

I started using purple up a couple weeks ago and never had any algae blooms.

ALmost everyone on here says it's just a gimmick, but I use it as a calcium supplement. When the bottle is done, I probably won't purchase it again.

    CORRECTION:
Not nessecerily true, depending on tank consumption, suppimenting calc and other elements are required. Sometimes consumption is so great a Calc reactor is required.
