Hi All-- I'm going to be doing my plumbing tonight for my tank and will be using PVC pipe. Is it ok to use the standard pvc piping primer and glue that you would use if doing plumbing in your house? wasn't sure if there is anything special for marine tanks.

The normal PVC primers & glues are fine. Don't be in a big hurry to run water through them and into your tanks with live stock.

I have done modifications to an existing install, waited just 2 hours before restoring the system, and captured the first bit of water through as a "flush" and been fine. I use the purple primer and Blue "wet" glue for the quick set.

You have to use the primer or the fitting can and do break apart the pipe is not being glued together its actually being welded or fused together the primer starts the process like flux on a welding rod the 2nd part is the glue thats the filler on the rod .. Its fine to use and about a 1/2 to set up is fine with no pressure .. If speed is a concern use the Rain and Shine . It sets up for pressure in a 1/2 or less. Clear primer is O.K but be sure you get the totally fitting thats why Code does not allow for plumbers to use clear primer the inspectors want to see the fittings and pipe where totally primed . Hence the purple primer .

Be sure the area is well ventilated. The stuff is nasty. Gave me a headache. And +1 to purple primer and cement. Regular stuff is just fine. Another thing, it sets in no time flat. So don't mess up on the positioning. Have your plan together, because if you mess up, you will be cutting again.
