If I am to QT corals that would mean the QT tank needs to have the correct lighting, CA, Mag, etc.

Does anyone have practical experience and or advise for QT corals?

The most cost effective thing you can do is buy from a trusted Aquaculture Facility (i.e. Vivid, ORA, Diver's Den) so you don't have to set up a proper QT tank for corals. Think of a proper QT tank for corals being a smaller DT. It must have everything you normally use on your DT as far as filtration and lighting to sustain the corals for an extended period of time. It is not practical in most home applications.

    Quality corals

I've been out of the hobby for awhile and am in need of help for a trustworthy supplier. You did mention a few and was curious where I could find a broader selection of retailers. BTW, I am a fan of vivid. Thank you

theres tons of dips now a days to take care of any problems on coral, so QT'ing them isn't really necessary, check your LFS for coral dips

Know or familiarize your self with the common pest. A dip is not going to assist you in battling zoanthids eating nudibanchs (it does not do anything for the eggs), montipora eating nudibranch same story. Acropora eating flatworms, dip will not treat for eggs. Red Bugs you need a specialized dip. Pyramid snails, a dip is not going to do anything. The list goes on and on.

Definitely dip, first line of defense, but do a careful examination of all corals if you can prior to purchase and before introduction into the DT. Know what the signs are of an infestation.

Lastly I have bought from the best retailers and vendors, regardless you will still get pests one of reasons being that dips are great for bacterial or fungal and some pest but for the real nasties you need specialized dips and usually manual removal to a certain degree.

I always set up a small bare bottom observation/QT tank and place the new corals on elevated eggcrate so I can treat as needed. The advantage of the bare bottom is I can observe what drops off and siphon it out. I use many medications depending on the pest and the coral type, a few are Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure, Lugols Solution, Flatworm Exit, Interceptor etc.
