Since my last three fish have all been flushed down the toilet I would like to set up a small 10g QT tank and need advice on what do include in it. Obviously a heater and some sort of HOB filter I will get.

What do I use for decorations so the fish can I hide and feel safe? I've seen PVC pipe used, but what other cheap and easy to clean/sanitize stuff could I use?

I will most likely go bare bottom as well. What about lighting?

Also, do I just use water from the display tank to fill up the QT when I need to use it? Or mix up a new batch of salt water? Thanks!

i usually use water from the display tank; you wont have to really acclimate them again unless u use new water. if ur using it as a quarantine now then do partial water changes daily; im pretty sure its not cycled

why not? that's what i did for my ick problem and i just used hypo to kill the parasite itself; besides you wont have to acclimate cuz its the same water, and the parasite will spread to the new water if the fish is infected with it anyway

Does it matter that I'm not putting DT fish in it? It would be set up only when I purchase a new fish. I would keep him in the QT for a month before putting it in the DT.

a month? I think you might be overdoing it there; if its like a clown maybe a week, 2 weeks tops, but something like a dracula goby then i'd give it a month

I read on another forum from a guy whose kept SW tanks for 35 years, and he quarantines for 6 weeks.

Researching is going to be the best move. Look for those individuals post that have done it many times and speak to the topic from years of experience. The more different sources you can look at the better.

You need to decide how long to keep the DT fallow, and what you are going to do with the QT, observe or treat.
