I was looking into buying a media reactor from BRS and was thinking of buying the dual media reactor. My question is, is it ok to only have media in one side? I may not use both side to begin with but would like to have the option down the road. Would this affect the performance?

That's just fine. In reality, the more media, the harder a pump must work.

With the Spectrapure dual reactor you get separate shutoff valves so one side or the other can be isolated without affecting the remaining side. This also helps when changing media since things like GFO and carbon have both different useful lives and different flow requirements.

I think I might save up and just buy that. Are you using it?

I am still using two Phosban 150 reactors but I plumbed them using a tee on the intake similar to the Spectrapure model a couple years ago so I could run them off one pump but control them individually.

Just get 2 individual reactors, is a lor easier to dial everything this way, different media needs different flow the brs dual reactor use the same flow for both media.
