Question about protien skimmers?

    If you have a hang on the back protein skimmer, do you have to get a filter also? i heard you could just a protein skimmer.

    You can! I still use a filter with some carbon to be safe, but it's not necessary! I just like the piece of mind and the extra surface agitation!

    As long as you got enough live rock and good flow, a skimmer is plenty. It should be a good HOB though. I run my tank with just good rock, vortech mp40 dialed all the way down and a aquamaxx hob-1, I do however have a 2 little fishies phosban reactor just to run carbon in and I keep up with water changes and everything looks great. The aquascaping is currently still being periodically adjusted as new coral and things get added
