Just wanted to know after rinsing your substrate in the bathtub out can it be added to my fuge no worries? I mean I had to rinse out with normal tap water, so, should I let it dry really good first or should it be good to go wet?

    was it new sand?
and dry sand not live sand I assume?

after all your hard work, I feel a bit guilty saying - you did not need to rinse it

New aragonite not live sand. I thought I would need to rinse it in order for it not to make my DT cloudy when I turn everything on etc.

    lol

I used to think the same Claic
but experienced 3 reefers all told me that, the fines/ dust will settle and that they make exceptionally good areas for bacteria to colonise, so leaving the dust in, is a good idea

the tap water will be in such a small amount, I dont percieve it as having much negative effect

Dang, thanks Steve. Well, I've built a stand for the fuge, assembled all the plumbing for it, and now rinsed the sand...My back is killing me. Glad to heat that next time I won't have to mess with it though!

If you are wanting a functioning DSB you want the fines, they support the most bacteria due to their surface area. The milkshake effect is temporary and not a big issue.
If its for a decorative sand bed then by all means rinse, its not meant to support fauna and flora like a DSB.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Nope, only rinse live sand if it smells bad and then only with tank water/sw.

I plan on having a 1-1.5 inch sand bed in my 125. I wasnt sure whether or not to wash it. I think I will just dump it in. I have 100 lbs all together of the live sand. Also thought I would only have an inch or so in the refug.

I like to rinse personally. I put it in a bucket and put the shower head on it and keep stirring until the water runs clear. Then I drain and scoop with a container leaving the water in the bottom of the bucket.
