So within the past two weeks that randomly I have noticed little white specs showing up on the glass all over my 90 gallon. I know they are copepods which I have never had before until now which might of came with my order from reefcleaners cause I've never had any till now and there is an explosion which I'm happy about even though there is nothing in my 90 gallon that will really eat them. But I was wondering, since I get brown algae on my glass and I use a magnet to clean the algae off the glass if it was a good or bad idea to continue doing that since I got copepods all over the glass now?:-/

Do you have any pics? Are the white specks in squiggily lines across your glass?

Most likely they are snail eggs, and not pods. Pods tend to hide out in rockwork and in chaeto.

white? hmmm idk sounds to me like those mini feather dusters that pop up by the hundreds and then die off, it happens occasionally. pictures would be awesome.

but wehave a 55 with TONS of copepods, and even with a mandarin their all over the glass and rock, we still clean the glass with a mag float, somtiems if u pull off the outside part of the mag float u can see the pods IN the brissley side of the magfloat on the glass, they like to hide in there for some reason.

    but yeah, scrape away :D

ok well it's good that i can still use the mag-float but I'm pretty sure they are pods because they continue to move around the glass and looks like the copepods I've seen in the pictures posted up in other threads I have read before and I will try to get a pic up asap to confirm that they are pods indeed.

Definitely not the dusters if they move around the glass.

If they move all around the glass they are probally pods. I have them most of the time to they come they go.... I clean the glass the next day they are there. ITs fine to clean if there is a population then they are in the rocks and what not also and that is where they reproduce so on the glass I would not worry clean away. If I dont see any for a few days I can reach into the refugium and I keep 3 sponges there I cna shake one and the next day there everywhere as they breed in the sponges. Kinda weird but hey food for the fishes.

yea the pods feed off of diatoms which usually lightly grows on the glass between cleanings. Just continue wiping the glass off and ignore them. They are very beneficial to the aquarium, not just as a food source. They also clean detritus and diatoms from everything, they will also eat uneaten food.

ok thanks guys for the helpful info....i know it seems like a rather dumb/easy question but I wanted to be sure that I was not going to decimate the population by knocking them off the glass or accidentally harming them. So I will continue to clean the glass and hopefully the population of pods will continue to grow since I could never get them in my 90 gallon & this is an established tanks for at least 4 years now
