What is one that is almost completely silent with no buzzing/vibration sounds?

That kind of question is not going to get you a very valuable answer. What kind... internal/external, what size tank, how much are you willing to spend????

Noise is completely subjective and someone else's silent is your noisy.

The simple answer is that there is no such thing as a silent skimmer.

The middle answer on quiet is... it depends. If you get a good quality skimmer... then that probably means you will be getting one that draws a lot of air. There is your first strike towards quiet. They all have air silencers, and you can make a better silencer. Needle wheels are one thing, Becketts and the like get the most complaints about air noise.

The next thing is the pump, and there is no such thing as a silent one. the easy answer is the pumps get quietter the more money you spend on them. The quietest are Red Dragons found on Bubble Kings. While it was the quietest skimmer I have owned, it certainly isn't silent regardless of what all the fans say. Askol pumps (SWC) have the same motor block as well as Air Stars from ATB. Those are going to be your best bet. The Sicce pumps are pretty darn quiet. Depends how big you need though. Any skimmer than needs a pump added is not going to be as quiet.

My SWC cone 160 is very quiet. I can't hear it unless I open up my stand.

I've also heard the Vertex IN series protein skimmers are quiet (and also great value).

I used to have a Deltec MC600 and sold it after only 5 months because it was so noisy, so I'd avoid that model.
