I have a bean animal. They work great but some are better than others. One key is not to have any horizontal pipes. The more straight down the better.
If you don't have the holes for it try out a stockman overflow. . Except for a bean animal.. it needs a certain amount of flow to work right. Or with normal over flow if not already have a valve controlling water on output and slow the flow going up top. That will make your regular durso/stockman quieter.
Another thing for quiet tanks is a DC pump. I can not hear my DC pump unless I put my head within a couple feet of it.
So then there are Powerheads. If you want quiet get something besides a Vortech. My vortechs make noise but I love them.
The next thing I didn't think about with my tank is the fans on my T5 light fixture. They are pretty noisy.
    Cheers.

So here's the plan so far. I am getting a replica of Ghost Overflow that I will be adding a bean animal to. Should be easy enough to pipe the pipes straight down, 2x 45 into the sump with all the valves on horizontal sections of the pipes. Switching to Reef Octopus for the skimmer. Adding a Lowed .5 inch closed cell foam insulation pad to the base of the stand to rest sump and pumps on top of. Will report back on how this works out :)

Light are AI, fans have not turned on yet but I am not running at full power.

Will report back on how it turns out, drilling the tank should be fun. :)

Make sure the valves are on the vertical part of pipes. Horizontal may get air which = noise. Also at the end where the pipe goes in water you want it to just barely go in maybe half inch. Less is better. I only mention that because it's very common problem for people. It won't burp itself if the pipe goes down too far into sump.

Good call, will do for the vertical placement. I also did read up on not getting pipes too far down into the sump, so will be doing that also. Thank you!!!

Mine is a little loud. Not bad. I put a sponge under the pump in my sump. And put pads in grates of overflow. The water going into the overflow was really loud.
These 2 things helped me. But yeah a noisy tank sucks

I found a really amazing trick for the protein skimmer air intake. You use a pill bottle with two holes drilled in it. One for the suction tube and one as an air intake tube. Its so quite you will never even know its running!

No problem . Try to avoid any horizontal plumbing at all. I have a little , sometimes it's just hard to avoid. I first made mine with some horizontal runs before I knew better. I switched that out to flexible hose that comes down at an angle where before it went down to a 90 degree then horizontal.. and that helped but still have a little bit of horizontal to get into sump. In a perfect world if the pipe went straight down you could get every little bubble out . .. or I should say the bubbles will just come up themselves. If you can do that it will be completely silent. My flexible hose is clear so I can see some bubbles in there. If I could do it over I would put some 45° pieces to help the bubbles go up top.
