Hello all, My tomato clown and Bi-Color angel recently came down with Ich, and I have been reading threads on this site to treat it other than medicine. I have a QT tank but it is has not cycled, so instead I have been soaking food in garlic guard, and I ordered some vitamin (selcon) which should be here in 1-3 days. My question is I read somewhere that raising the temperature in the tank to over 84 degrees speeds up the cycle, will this have any adverse effects on my inverts (cerith, nass sails), LR, corals? All the fish are eating like crazy still, and the white spots have been around for almost a week.

I picked up Ick attack today but it recommends using it without running carbon, seeing have a HOB filter my pads come with carbon in them, should i stop using the ick attack since it will be just nuetralized?

I really dont wanna shut off the filter entirely seeing how my diamond goby likes to stir up the sand.

Also my nitrates have risen in the last week since I have been feeding heavily. Here are my water peramiters.

    Ammonia : 0
    Nitrate: 0
Nitrates right after placing Ick attack in : 20ppm
The tank has been established since march.

I aslo ordered a phosphate reactor since I am having diatom/cyno outbreak.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks for all your help. I can post pics if needed.

I would run it without the pad.

Temperature will speed up the ich life cycle, yes. That can make it kill your fish off quicker, though. They may not get a good immune response in the now-shortened time between infections.

Thanks...It says to do a water change at the end of the Ick Attack dosing, with my nitrates already getting higher should I just wait it out? Because a water change would effectively remove the ick attack right? Also should I turn off my skimmer?

About time someone realized this. I see dozens of responses each week on this forum telling people to raise the temp. What they fail to mention is it is only valid if you are trying to "burn out" the parasite infection in a tank that is fish-fallow. With fish in the tank, you are subjecting the fish to quicker waves of attacks as the parasites go through their life-cycles at an elevated rate.

Very good advise there Reeron! Only raise the temp if you are currently undergoing treatment with medication or Hyposalinity. I raised mine to 81 and am treating with Hyposalinity and nothing else. I have been this way for about 2 weeks and have seen the parasite dissappear from my Sohal tang. the fish has also completely stopped scratching.

best of Luck with the ICK attack. I have heard from some that it work and most that it doesnt. the only 100% surefire ways to kill ICH so that it doesnt ever come back are Hyposalinity and Copper.

Best cure for ich is healthy fish eg prime water conditions. Stay on top of your water by all means to help save your fish.

Vac those eggs outta the sand too

Ya know, I didnt vac the sand out. and I have seen a few little bursts of the parasite in the sohal. him itching a few times every few days or so. no other signs of infection, just a simple scratch on the overflow.

Herbtana from Microbe- Lift worked for me. I had my outbreak in March.
