Depends on what you are looking for. If you want detailed chemistry or advanced topics, RC is the only place you will consistently find people who can actually help. People like Randy holmes farley. But if you are asking typical entry level reef questions you will get roflstomped by people who no longer have the patience because there are literally a thousand threads with that info in them.

I would never have a build thread there though. Unless you are spending ridiculous money no body cares.

I started here over a year ago and had no idea of how a salt tank worked. With all the help and knowledge from friends on here I have become a true reefer. 3Reef will always be my home.

I only ever go on RC (or any other forums) when I google something and it looks like a thread may have the answer. Otherwise, this is the only SW forum I spend any time on.

+1 to that. Though all I ever find is that people quickly hijack threads. I also frequent Manhattan Reefs, but thats only because its local and I only really use it for the marketplace to buy/ sell. Its basically the craigslist of reef stuff up here.

I'm on 3reef, Reef Central and Socalireefs. 3reef is by far the most enjoyable of them all. I still gotta give a lot of props to RC, they are the biggest forum and that cannot be ignored.

When I started this thread I was absolutely mad at RC for the responses I got. I know some of the questions I ask here are advanced questions, and therefor I decided to ask the same questions there. The response I got was basically read this book, look through back issues of this magazine, read these articles, and the articles by Wolfgang Mai. I thought to myself, why can't you just answer the questions I asked with an answer. Apparently the guy knew where the information could be found, and/or knew the answers but didn't want to give them to me.

I don't want to bash a forum because of one or two bad apples, but it is usually your first experiences you remember the most.

This is my home and will stay here.

Mind you extra knowledge is never a bad thing and if you have some spare time you should totally read those articles. But i understand the frustration of a vague answer to a specific question

I'm a member everywhere.... even the South Africa forum. I don't regularly participate in all, but I make my rounds occasionally to see what's going on. You will miss things if you stay just on one forum. Make one or two your home and visit the rest to see what they are talking about or experiencing. They can all have different protocols for something that you may want to try.

I think you are stunting your growth if you don't visit other sites. Every site has strong individuals they everyone looks up to and trusts. Every person who joins kinda has to conform to the ideas of this "favorite person" or group or be "that person", always bucking the "accepted" ideas. For example, let's say they recommend a certain way of doing hypo. You would have a hard time in that forum presenting a different way of doing it without being the "rebel". If you are the new person or the quiet person, no one will hear you and some will even fight you.

Pinned topics are great, but they kind of say "This is the excepted way of doing things on this forum". Sometimes a "Check out the pinned topic" carries more weight in the conversation than any other post, just because it's pinned. Now, I'm not saying a forum shouldn't have pinned topics, as I have them on my own niche forum. But you should read every single forum's pinned topics when looking for input on a common thing.

Now, after saying that. I have found this forum awesome. This and my own are my "home", but I am EVERYWHERE :)
