Gonna test for phosphates which I haven't done in a long time, if I have them, what methods/products do you recommend to remove them?

    Matt,

I have always used Phosban. I use it loose inside a cannister filter compartment rather than in a filter bag as I think it gives a better result ( no clumping etc ) Don't expect immediate results however, it does take a few weeks sometimes before you see measurable results

" Granular ferric oxide hydroxide filter media that adsorbs phosphate, silicate, arsenic and other dissolved organic waste. Does not leach back-adsorbed substances, even after full saturation and does not affect water pH. Includes media bag. Indications: treats up to 150 gallons for up to 4 months "

I think I used that stuff ages ago in my old 40. It's the white pellet stuff right? That did work for me as I recall.
