    Hi Guys,

Having a bit of a bubble algae outbreak at the moment. I just put the GFO/Carbon reactor back online, and picked up 2 emerald crabs from my LFS to try and take care of it as well. Actually, they claimed they were emerald or just the same. I'm not sure what to think, so I could some suggestions. I'm a little hesitant about crabs in general anyway, but the outbreak is driving me nuts. Please provide some insight into these two guys, so I dont add them to tank and have them eat all my softies, all the while I won't be able to get them out.

I'm acclimating them to my tank water now, so hopefully someone can provide some advice on whether or not I should add them soon.

    thanks 8)

Yup those are Mithrax crabs, or emerald as there called. You can tell by the flat tips to there claws. They should be fine to put in. Those are cool looking, I want a red one now. LOL

Are you sure they weren't already sick or dead?? Mine waves his claws at everything but he is way to slow to catch a fish. He actually used his claws to try and hit my clown and scare her off when she tries to eat some of his algae disks but never tries to pinch.

    Heh,

My clowns seem to be really interested in the smaller of the two now. They keep going up to it and swatting it in the face with their tails. The crab does a poke/snap action but clearly isn't fast enough to catch them. Kinda funny to watch. The larger of the two found a big patch of bubble algae already is going to town on it right next to a big rock with quite large mushrooms on it. Here's hopin the algae is enough for him :)

I've had a old emerald pick at corals before.. it helps their claws are flat at the points... I just added 2 more recently.. for my red bubble trouble.. its a 90% they wont mess with anything..
