red gracilaria algae

    my RGA is starting to turn green in spots. i have my refuge lights on 24/7 and i wanted to know if it was from too much light or what. i have a 20 PC current light 1 40W 10000K and 1 40W actinic light :-/

    I've read about all gracilaria being a "red" even the green ones, and lighting does effect them, ie.; strong light, lighter red, low light, deep reds. Reefcleaners.org has a great forum on macro algae and John Maloney answers questions with great knowledge. I have the red grac., too, the tangs really like it.

    Mine was green when it got caught under something and didn't get light. I've had gracialria in the tank almost since I started it. It's doing well :D

    Not enough nutrients most likely. probably low on iodine as well. Most reef tanks do not have enough nutrients to support Gracilaria in the long term.
