I have this red macro algae growing on one of my rocks and I was wondering if I should remove it. It looks cool, but I don't know how invasive it is.

    Looks like Gracilaria.

I think it is Gracilaria instead of Gelidium. Gelidium almost looks like it has "needles" on the "stems" that are more uniform and the Gracilaria doesn't the branches or "needles" are more sporadic and not uniform and that's what I saw in the picture. I will agree they both look similar though. If it is Gracilaria and I am correct, just about any herbivore fish you have could/would feed on it.

you can see the needle like things growing on the sides they will inbeb in coral, if you can seperate the rock from the others it will look nice in the tank you can harvest it also from time to time if it gets to close to your lps coral, i woud try to leave it and see how fast it grows, it can be quiet beautiful in the right setting. Thanks for the replies! I'm glad to hear that things will eat it! It is really kind of pretty so I was apprehensive about removing it and I plan on getting a kole tang anyway which might eat it. I feel a lot better now! I just wanted to be sure it wasn't going to take over the tank :)
