i was given this frag and now it is a mini colony of supposedly be a red planet.
the more it grows the more i think it is not a red planet.
anybody who has been longer in this hobby can enlighten me if it is really a red planet?
instead of growing by tabling it is growing vertically like a millepora. could it be a red millepora?
    thanks!

I think it is a millepora (which has tabling growth), but not specifically a Red Planet. Red Planets are more burgundy/wine in color. Yours seems to be more purple. The frags have to grow upward a bit, I think, before they will grout outward (tabling), like we see in the top-down shot of the mother colony.

    It's not a RP.

Looks very similar to the ORA Blue Mille.

I believe it is a Red Planet in low-light conditions, hence the amount of green and lack of vibrant red/pink. The growth pattern is also consistent for lighting conditions on the slightly-less-than-optimal for a RP.

It's not a milli, the coralities do not have the correct structure.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Yes I agree.

RP coloration is so variable on lighitng, placement and water chemistry (phosphates and nitrates). It appears to have the emerald green coloration to the base. It probably has not tabled based on the lighting it was under. Most tabling RP I have seen is a much paler red but the shaded or less lighted base remains an emerald green.

As mentioned by evolved as well the corallite structures do not match a Millepora.

Having several frags and the mother colony I have seen a lot of coloration variations.
