As the title says, I acquired a red sea anthias. What does that mean? It looks identical to a lyertail anthias but the tail is different. I would love to post a pic but the guy(elongated spike on the dorsal fin) is elusive since he has only been in my tank for two days. Any anthias experts?

I might be completely mis-reading what you are asking, but I would say it just means they are from the Red Sea  Some fish have unique markings or colorings depending on where they are collected from. I would assume this would be the case with your Anthias, but I am by no means an expert on them. Otherwise, almost any fish from the Red Sea is labeled as such (i.e. Red Sea Purple Tang, etc) because of the cost of collection from it. A fish collected from the Red Sea will be more expensive than the same fish collected elsewhere from what I have seen.

Or maybe there is a Red Sea Anthias? I found these - Pseudanthias taeniatus.... does yours look anything like that? The Lyretail anthias has a different scientific name and the males are very different, so I think the species does exist.

    Yes, but--

The Raccoon Butterflyfish and the Red Sea Raccoon Butterflyfish are also considered different species. However, the RSRB is most definitely from the Red Sea, hence it's name. Same goes for the Red Sea Anthias. There are also Central Pacific Anthias and Indian Ocean Anthias; again, different species from the rest, but the names are indicative of their places of origin.
