red worms in sand

    so I noticed that I have red worms in sand.. they look like centipedes.. what are they and how do I rid of em

    Moved to the ID This forum. What you're seeing are most likely bristleworms. Perfectly harmelss and great detritivores.

    If they are bristleworms they're mostly beneficial and are actually sifting your sand for you, so you probably don't want to get rid of them.

    there are some species that are bad (I think they're a bristle worm) and eat snails and crabs. I took a 6 incher out of the rockwork last night and freaked out. it was a eunicid worm. took him out and flushed it while he was retreating to it's rock...
