I had quite an interesting experience. i started out with IO salt and my corraline was growing like wild fire. The tank was completely encrusted. I had to scrape the fron a few times a month. I decided to start using Reef Crystals and my corraline started dying off. I have since switched back to salt and my corraline is taking off...JMTC
You might also consider dosing with Iodine, I do...But be sure you are testing for it...One requirement for corraline growth, especially deep rich colors is iodine. I even have it growing like crazy in my sump...Mg also...

I have had this 20 Long running for almost exactly one year. Never dosed anything at all, do a a 2 gallon water change weekly and use Reef crystals exclusively. This photo is about 3 months old but now you can barley see the black egg crate beneath the Coraline. There are tons of factors that contribute to good coraline growth or death like change in lighting, chemical imbalance.....

Dr.Fragenstein and me have debated the merits of RC extensively in a previous post. But he is definitely right about the fact that the newer batch of RC is lower in CA than some other salt. I have tested the last few buckets I have had several time each and it was running about 380 to 400 but the last two buckets have been at are right at 360 right out of the bucket.

Do you use RO water? Yes, but i started my tank with dechlorified tap water and have been doing water changed and top offs with RO water since then
