I feel like I have had alot of problems with this skimmer (reef octopus BH100f as stated in the title). After finally getting it working right when I set my tank up I've had a good 6 months with no issues. The past few months though, I've had leaking issues...first around the inlet and outlet seals....I fixed those with Teflon tape. Now, I can barely position my skimmer cup any way without it either leaking over the edge of where the cup sits (it has the rubber band, but that doesn't stop it) or it leaks from the plastic screw in the front that holds the skimmer cup in position. The leak from the screw is a slow drip, but when you go on vacation for 5 days and come back to a soaking wet carpet behind the tank...its not a good thing. I've turned the skimmer off for now and am wondering if I should just get a new skimmer (not a RO).

Anyone else having issues? Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong?

The skimmer should still be under warranty by Octopus. Try contacting them. I believe the motor is warranted for 1 year and the "craftsmanship" for 2 years.

i had issues with my octopush bh800s. It never worked right, i had countless problems and the latest was leaking from the bottom, the leaking wouldnt happen all the time but when it did i would have 3 gallons of water on my floor.

I suggest emailing or call coralvu and let them know what's been going on. With the leaking on my skimmer that was it, i couldnt take the issues any more and decided to contact them.

They were out of stock on my skimmer, they gave a couple of options, one was to send the skimmer back and they would try to fix it. Or the second was to buy one of their new skimmers with a discounted price. I took the second option and just received my new skimmer today.

They have great customer serives, so i'd so go ahead and contact and see what they can do for you :)

After I started this thread I found an email for Coralvue...I think in one of your threads, Puffer Chick. I will try to contact them and see if they have any suggestions for me.

never had any troubles with mine. Well sometimes i get some creep in the nine and have to break it down for cleaning, but i should be doing that more than the twice i have in the last year. The one on my 55 never had issues with.

What you want to do is in that middle chamber where the cup sits, an inch or so below the top drill a hole on each side at a downward angle.

This way it will overflow into the other chamber, neither of which gets as full as the middle.

Also, this may be a problem with air flow. At the very bottom of the pump where the airline connects, take out the pump, take off the airline and look in that little tube on the pump. This spot tends to get calcium buildup and blocks airflow causing weird water level issues.

If it's not clear, take it off and soak it in vinegar/water over night, get a tooth pick and clear it. put it back together. yay.

Thanks Peredhil...I'll do what you suggested. And may still contact coralvue and let you all know what they suggest.
